my special surprise for my little girl!

big girl room... or so I hope she thinks!  I am not one to think outside of the little girl box (my girls still wear ribbons in their hair and I do not give into posters and such...)  This is a lamp that my grandmother used as a girl (Nora that my nora is named after!  I covered a shade and added trim)  The chandelier needed a new twist and I loved this button trim... I bought it months ago sure that i would find a place for it!

My mom wrote up the story of how she played with the flowers from rose of sharon bushes... my grandmother has them all over her yard and we now have ones from those!  I painted the frame hot pink and it is my favorite way that it has looked since we framed and hung it 6 years ago!  The painting above Nora's bed is my knock off of a knock off!  It started as a fruit painting from goodwill!)
Mally has been begging for  a "big girl room", her own bed, basically change!  What do you do when you have a 6 year old and 11 year old sharing a room?  I know she needs her space and less of a little girl look (I started by removing the framed birth announcements!)  BUT I had to keep in mind that there is still a little girl in there who plays with stuffed toys, dress up and geo trax (not an easy toy to store!)  I decided to do all this while she is away at camp and I have become obsessed with it!  She has NO idea!  They had a spare closet that once housed the handpainted wooden kitchen, then was the American Girl "room"...it is now Mally's closet...JUST hers!  Nora has most the toy boxes in her closet.  I was on a budget so I used pillows, blankets and so on from their room before the full bed.  The twin beds are my old ones that they used before... now we are using the foot board a s a headboard (going to fix and adjust where they are closer to same height!)...we did not want to do the day bed this time.  I bought fabric for curtains and lamp shades and to cover the storage ottomans and bulletin boards, and bought paint..under $100 for fabric and trims and I have a lot of the dot fabric still, and about $75 for paint, misc and goodwill (the wall shelf that I painted white was under$3 and looks a lot like a PB teen one that is $160!  And the painting over Nora's bed was $12, it was a walnut color wood frame with the canvas of painted fruit...primed and painted white and I painted the canvas inspired by reproduction art on line).
this is the old room... I hated to take the antique bed down, it was mine when I was a teenager and Flynn and I's until we had Nora!  It will be a guest room bed someday!
My next project is to tackle their dated bathroom!  Boys room is almost done too!
