thanks and blessings...
Nora has come home sick each of the past three weeks, going to the doctor each time. Monday afternoon she got home and crawled in my lap and stayed there even though friends were over for a visit...after they left, she said she was going to rest on the couch and was sound asleep in seconds. Noticed a little later that her head felt warm. Temp was 103. Flynn and I were concerned at this point. She does not like to miss school and each of these spells, she had fevers and was weak and tired. Doctor would look at her, diagnose and we would do a round of medicine. I did remember that even on the days she felt "well" and was back at school, she would fall asleep on the way home ( a 5 minute ride) and she was napping a lot. I take her to the doctor. Next comes a series of blood work after they see that her white blood cell count is very low. She (doctor) starts asking a series of questions and I realize what she is looking for and/or ruling out. The scary stuff is ruled out after Nora is poked and poked, and they figure out that the first time she was sick lately it was a bad virus that attacked her immune system and she would appear well after medication only to go back to school and get whatever germ was floating around and making her weaker. She is now getting to stay home for a long thanksgiving break! They are hoping to get the count back up and her body well and stronger. Things look better.
As I sat there thinking of all that could be wrong and finding out it would not be so bad, I felt blessed and guilty and thankful. Hagan is at a small highschool (less than 1000 students) and this fall 3 were diagnosed with cancer...the boy in his class is one of his friends and is fighting a very difficult battle with it. And in the little class that I am teaching two days a week, the brother of one of my sweet 3 year old boys is fighting a tough battle with brain cancer. This little boy is only Nora's age. Please pray for all of them. I cannot imagine what these families are going through.
