nora's eye journey...

So after reading some in the book we learned of and hearing more and more from Nora of what she was dealing with, we took her to another optometrist...this one specializes more in vision therapy (we love her other eye doctor and she will still go to him yearly).  She was a trooper... the visit was long with many many tests and procedures and LOTS of questions...we learned that she has no 3D vision, none!  She explained to the doctor that the words move on the page and sometimes go on top of each other and many times she sees two of things.  We had noticed and he confirmed that her left eye is losing muscle strength, it wanders often when she is focusing.  She also told him that sometimes when she opens a drawer it looks like the drawer moves to the right instead of straight out.  He laughed as she answered things and told us that he had never heard someone this young explain so well how they visualize things!  He said it is like textbook explanations of what she is going through!  He said that she is very aware of her vision!

Her treatment is a little intense.  She will do vision therapy 1 day a week there for 1 1/2 hours and she will have "homework" at least 4 days a week to work on it here (for 14-15 weeks), and then here is her favorite part...she will wear glasses for about 2 years or so!  She is genuinely excited...before she had to wear bifocals and there were pretty much no choices, this time the possibilities were endless!  Precious little brown and pink glasses with an adorable case!  She is so proud.  The doctor told her that they are for when she writes, reads or does something close...and she can use them for TV or Wii.  As we picked them up this afternoon, she informed me that she would need to play wii or Reilly's Ipod so that she could wear them this afternoon!
on a side note... the funniest part was that when she got to try on all the pairs and was deciding on these, she stared in the mirror at herself in them smiling and said,"these are going to look so cute with my missing teeth!"
