getaway to "the farm"

We are blessed with many good "family" friends... there are two families that we spend a lot of time with, and ironically neither has boys but yet our boys love them...there is a special bond between each of the parents in our three families with eachother's children that I am so thankful for!  For quite sometime we have all been talking about travelling together and had a trial by going to one of their farm houses for the weekend...perfect!  Altough we missed Mally who had a busy weekend already scheduled and Hagan who was at a football game...we all had a wonderful weekend!

we celebrated this sweet couples 22nd anniversary since they had not gotten to in "formal fashion" yet!  Happy anniversary john and meg!

 off to tour the farm...

Horses... (and there were deer, cows, dogs)

piggy-sue...

beautiful old barns and homes and buildings all over...

this VERY old house is held up by stacks of rocks...which I thankfully (?) noticed after we ran around inside!  Reilly joked Jenga and acted like he would pull one...Audrey and Flnn got brave and ran under it!

inside...old papers that were insulation more recently...ha!
an old smoke house... Leah checks it out!  and inside... the "original big green egg!!!"

audrey and reilly off to practice archery...

 the river and Ft. Donelson...

historic area...John's grandmothers old home that is being restored

(above)...old quilts at the visitor center made by John's great great grandmother...his family way back were in the first settlers to the area...
kites and football

Scavenger hunt!

 clues... and they are off!

the big kids go hide the clues!

there was so much to take in...and photograph!

campfire and smores and amazing stars...

the farm fairies have been coming and leaving goodies since John's mom was a little girl and before mass Meg heard that they had visited...
search for the fairy treasure!

after mass, a parishioner wanted a photo of this large group of visitors that John's parents brought to mass!

john's mother painted these beautiful stained glass paintings in the church...
