reading club?!?!

So Nora is about to be a big second grader.  We have summer packets at school to keep them caught up through the summer (in every grade).    Nora's summer packet got packed away first day of summer as we moved things/packed things away to do the girls bathroom...She wants to work on it one day, so I download it of our school site...It has a list of dates for reading clubs during the summer...the first only a few days away.  She reads, picks out her favorite part to discuss and takes a visual to share...we get there and we are the only ones at school (construction going on full swing, it's almost done!)  Our grounds guy who is wonderful sees us walking all through the school and calls sweet teacher and leaves a message... she calls him right back to say that the packet does not have reading club times this year b/c of construction...she had changed that on line (but right after I downloaded it!).  Nora is almost in tears.  We go home and I am trying to think of something to do to make it up to her....Teacher calls and asks if she can come get her and take her for ice cream, and insists on doing it!  Nora had a ball and talked her ear off!  This is a great teacher who has had almost all of our kids!  She did her student teaching with MY 6th grade class!  ( think that just makes her 8-10 years older!)  and she taught my little sister.  She is great and it made Nora's day!  That night when she took a bath she was still talking non-stop about it and said that was so much cooler than reading club!!!
